LIGHT IT UP
In 2019 we want to see young people connecting with Christ, lighting up their local churches, and bringing hope into their communities.
In Matthew 5:14 Jesus said – “You are the light of the World. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.” Jesus is calling us here to bring hope and light into a dark and dim world. The question begging to be answered is - what will it take? What will it take to light up your local church, so it lights up the community?
I have three things for you to consider.
The first is connecting with Jesus each day in a meaningful way. A researcher once asked a Pastor whose Church was thriving with young people what his secret to Youth ministry was. His response – “Don’t neglect your heart. Spend time in the Word, pray, and let God speak to you. Carve out time each day for this...” Jesus is where the light begins.
The second is finding a few people to invest in. Dave Ferguson put it this way - “Hero Makers have discovered that dying to self and living for God’s kingdom through others is the secret of multiplied results and greater impact.” The big point – our impact will be no-where near as profound if we go it alone. Who has Jesus led into your life for you to invest in? Investing in others is where the light grows.
The third is dream big! Too often we take the short sighted view of where God is leading – dream big and look for the vision that God has for your Church and community (Isa 55:8-9). God’s vision inspires us to commit all we have, and all we are, to shining His light in this life.
Blessings as you embark on this journey!
